Greg Silver 78 FIAT X1/9
Almost 20 years. That's what it took for me to find another X1/9 like my dad's '78 CA Edition Series Speciale. That was a rare car back then, but can you imagine scouring the Internet- checking every ad across the USA, for 5 years straight, until one day when I came across an eBay auction and thought "what the hell". I bid on it, and kept bidding for over a week. Right up til the last minute when with only a couple seconds left, a "sniper" outbid me by .50 cents! I wound up with the car anyhow, but the condition it showed up in- frankly, scared me. Then it blew the head gasket and warped the head 4 days later. One of the front hoses had a serious weakspot in it, and the wrong thermostat was in there, and the head gasket had been leaking between #3&4 cyl's...long story short- I ordered a new head from Bruce's in NJ. He wasn't sure what it was, but turns out its a European market head, higher compression. Turn the clock a few years and about $10k later, and the car now sits much more aggressive, drives like a magnet to the road, and is a blast to work on. See photos for anything more! :)
Thanks a MILLION to this site, and Xweb Forum- I would never have gotten this far without either one.
